Seventh Wave fuelled QXi’s scale up by nurturing a new generation of leaders (Case Study)
“There are people who embraced the course and are now on a journey to become great leaders … because of the training.” — Andy Larholt, CEO of QXi
QXi is the umbrella company to three different organisations Montash, Reimobi and Trillion and it has grown steadily since 2004, but its next phase demanded more than just extra hires.
The challenge was to develop a confident middle‑leadership layer capable of scaling performance whilst safeguarding the culture that binds teams across continents. Here’s our latest interview with Andy Larholt, CEO of QXI.
The growth challenge
“Our business is all about the people. We realised we wouldn’t hit our targets without developing and supporting people as they move from a single contributor to a manager role…. Otherwise, the risk would have been just adding headcount in, rotating and losing people and having high levels of attrition.”
When headcount is climbing, opportunities are multiplying, and suddenly the old “founder‑driven” model starts to have cracks in its armour. That moment finally announced itself when the group’s three companies began to stretch across Europe, North America and beyond.
Why QXi chose Seventh Wave
When it came to selecting a leadership training company, Andy emphasised how well regarded Seventh Wave are in the recruitment sector and was particularly impressed by how they fit into the company’s pre-existing leadership structure.
“Seventh Wave are well known in our industry. Their course structure and the people delivering it tick all the boxes for us.”
Seventh Wave led six‑months of in‑person leadership training with hands‑on facilitation, including attending QXI’s annual leadership retreat. Thanks to Seventh Wave productivity went up, retention is stronger, and headcount continues to rise, powered by a shared leadership language that now travels effortlessly around the globe. (So much so that QXI now has their second cohort running through the Seventh Wave programme.)
The experience
The in-person nature of the workshops was particularly exciting for QXI, bringing all the different businesses leaders together in London. Picture a bunch of emerging leaders swapping laptops for flip‑charts and meaningful conversation for miscommunication over email.
Over six months they:
- Explored mindset shifts from individually motivated to coach and culture‑carrier.
- Practised live coaching conversations, with honest peer feedback.
- Took those skills straight back to the desk and returned to reflect, refine and stretch further after each session.
Results that matter
Seventh Wave is just the start of a longer journey. At QXI growth and development now feels limitless.
“There are people who embraced the course and are now on a journey to become great leaders. Because of the training, they’re able to do a much better job.”
- Productivity increased: individual and team members elevated as new leaders had a trickle-down effect on best practice in the business.
- Retention up: the right conversations kept great talent and energy inside the business.
- Headcount growing with confidence: expansion into South America and Eastern Europe is powered by leaders who can replicate QXI culture anywhere…
Andy simply summarised it, as a “hugely positive partnership”, and one they look to continue.
