WHY start with the WHY?

Let’s talk about a topic that we look at in our workshops: Starting with the Why.

Now, you might be wondering what on earth is the Why and why is it so important?

Well, the Why is the fundamental reason why your business exists. It’s not just about what you do or how you do it, but rather the purpose and belief that drives you to do what you do.

You see, as a business leader, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day operations and forget about the bigger picture. But, the truth is, if you don’t have a clear understanding of your Why, then you’re just going through the motions.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “This sounds all fine and dandy, but how do I actually go about finding my Why?”

Well, it all starts with asking yourself a few key questions. Questions like: What is the purpose of my business? What problem am I trying to solve? What do I believe in?

Once you have a clear understanding of your Why, it’s important to communicate it to your team and your customers. This is where things get really interesting.

You see, when you communicate your Why, you’re not just telling people what you do, but you’re inviting them to join a movement. A movement that’s driven by a shared purpose and belief.

And let me tell you, when you have a team that’s aligned around a common purpose, amazing things can happen. You’ll see increased engagement, higher morale, and a sense of fulfillment that goes beyond just making a profit.

But, it’s not just about your team. When you communicate your Why to your customers, you’re not just selling them a product or service, but you’re inviting them to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

You’re creating loyal customers who believe in your purpose and will go out of their way to support you.

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “This all sounds great, but I’m running a business here. I don’t have time for all this touchy-feely stuff.”

Well, let me tell you, that’s where you’re wrong. Starting with the Why isn’t just some fluffy concept. It’s a proven business strategy that’s been used by some of the most successful companies in the world.

Just take a look at companies like Apple, Nike, and Tesla. These companies don’t just sell products, they sell a vision. They’re driven by a purpose and belief that inspires their customers to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

And let’s not forget the impact that starting with the Why can have on your bottom line. When you have a loyal customer base and an engaged team, you’ll see increased profitability and growth.

So, if you’re still not convinced, let us leave you with this quote from one of our favorite authors, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”

Starting with the Why isn’t just about building a ship, it’s about inspiring your team and customers to yearn for something greater. It’s about creating a movement that’s driven by a shared purpose and belief.

So, leaders, we urge you to take some time to reflect on your Why. Ask yourself those key questions and communicate your purpose and belief to your team and customers.

Who knows, you might just inspire a movement that changes the world.
